Defaulting on a French mortgage

Does anybody know what happens if you can no longer pay any

interest or capital back to the French bank who lent you

the money to buy a French property? Especially if they

repossess and are unable to sell the property because it's

a leaseback with an uncertain future. My husband has such a

mortgage, but we've both been made redundant. Our main fear

is that the French bank might be able to re-possess our UK

home, although it is in my name only. Can anybody advise

please?

If anyone is defaulting with Barclays please contact me in private messenger.

Hi Roma and Botron,

I am really sorry for what happens to you.
First it is better to try to sell the property by yourselves than letting the bank repossess it.
But before this did you try to contact your bank and ask to reduce the monthly repayments ?
You have been made redundant, but don't you think you'll find a new job soon ?
If you don't pay your mortgage anymore and the bank repossess your property you will never be able to take a mortgage in france again.
And you will be in file in the Banque de france (FICP = ficher des incidents de credits aux particuliers)
But it is unlikely that the bank repossesses your UK property (at least)
